Sen. James Inhofe R-OK knocked it out of the park today on Global Warming

Sen. Inhofe’s floor speech today did not use any opinion of his own. He showed over and over that scientists that do not agree with the idea that anthrpogenic emissions are driving climate change.

I did not know that scientists were asked to revise their technical report to more closely match the politicians’ policy statement issued three months earlier. We can’t have that science stuff getting in the way of policy desires. Why did so many scientists want to remove their names from the list of “consensus” scientists when their objections to the findings were removed.

What is public?

I thought the public was all the citizens of the country. When we say public transportation we mean any one who can afford the fare. but when we say for the public’s benefit we mean something completely different. We mean the US citizens. We have public debate that is meant for the US citizens, per the Constitution. Yet this debate is up for world consumption. So on one hand we want the DailyKos netroots people to get our anti-Bush message, on the other hand we don’t want that message to be perceived as anti-American. What is happening now is politicians sending one message to American citizens and the rest of the world receiving another message.

This is not due to a problem with the message itself. It is due to the people elsewhere receiving it. When we say George Bush is fighting an illegal war, the rest of the world hears ‘America is fighting an illegal war’. When we say we are about to cutoff funding to George Bush, the rest of the world hears ‘America is about to quit, Insurgents and terrorist have won’.

The Constitution was written in a time when debate in congress could be agreed to and acted upon before spies could get the intelligence back to the enemy in a time when the enemy was another sovereign country. Public debate relied upon showing up at the House or the Senate. Now we broadcast this to the world. There is no delay. The president asks for authority to act, it is broadcast instantly, and the time to act passes because of the amount of warning.

Why does America want to give up the element of surprise?

Senator Durbin wants us to warn Iran; Shows solidarity with Iraqi Insurgents

I am not sure if Senator Durbin forgot that he was supposed to be talking about Amtrak. In the interest of the Illinois citizens, he ignored the current debate to let insurgents know there are people fighting to get our troops out of Iraq ASAP and to further help Iran know that they will be warned if Democrats have anything to do with it. I have not heard any indication myself that President Bush is going to invade Iran, just threats(promises) about building nuclear bombs. Those involved sanctions first, then after sanctions fail (which they usually do i.e. Cuba, Iraq, Burma, others…), limited airstrikes on designated targets (since UN is involved, give Iran time to move the most valuable stuff). The Amtrak funding debate has everything to do with Iraq and Iran, right?. The Illinois citizens got their money’s worth today!
